Bulletproof Vest Program
| The Office of Grants and Research has state funds available through the Bulletproof Vest Program to reimburse Massachusetts municipal police departments for up to 50% of the cost of bulletproof vests. To be eligible for this program, a department must have already applied for and received funds through the federal Patrick Leahy Federal Bulletproof Vest Partnership, which provides reimbursement for 50% of the cost of bulletproof vests. OGR’s Bulletproof Vest Program can reimburse departments for the remaining 50% of the cost of these vests. Combined, the two programs can cover the full cost of eligible bulletproof vests purchased by Massachusetts police departments. |
Eligibility:
| Massachusetts municipal police departments that have already been approved for reimbursement through the federal Patrick Leahy Federal Bulletproof Vest Partnership. Any officer receiving a vest must be full-time or part-time, sworn personnel of the local police department. Officers must have graduated from a recognized Police or Reserve Intermittent Academy. Eligible purchases include: – A bulletproof vest for a member of the purchasing law enforcement agency who has not previously been issued a bulletproof vest; and – The replacement of any bulletproof vest that was purchased on or after July 1, 2000, and is older than 5 years from the date of such purchase. |
