Chiefs,
MCOPA is gathering information regarding the costs communities are being assessed to participate in Regional Emergency Communication Centers (RECCs) and Regional Dispatch Centers across the Commonwealth.
We are particularly interested in comparing assessment structures and costs for locally operated regional districts/centers and centers operated through the Massachusetts State 911 Department.
If your community participates in a regional center, please send whatever information you have available regarding:
- Name of the regional dispatch center/RECC
- Communities served
- Whether the center is locally/regional district operated or State 911 operated
- Your community’s FY26 assessment
- Your FY27 assessment, if available
- How the assessment is calculated (population, call volume, equal shares, formula, etc.)
- Services included
- Any additional fees or costs outside of the annual assessment
- Any significant recent or anticipated increases in assessments
We would also like to hear from communities that have recently regionalized or are considering regionalization, particularly regarding projected costs compared with maintaining local dispatch operations.
Please send your responses directly to me at mbradley@masschiefs.org.
Thank you for your assistance.
