The POST/MPTC Model Use of Force Policy Self-Assessment is due tomorrow, Wednesday, September 30, 2026. If your agency has not yet submitted it, please complete the UOF Policy Self-Assessment by the deadline. If your agency has already submitted it, no further action is needed.
The self-assessment asks agencies to confirm that their written use-of-force policy is consistent with the Model Use of Force Policy (PDF), which is also available in Word format.
POST has clarified that “consistent” does not mean your policy must use the Model Policy’s exact wording. It must account for all applicable provisions, though your agency may set higher standards. If a provision does not apply to your agency, indicate that in the self-assessment. You do not need to submit your agency’s policy with the form, although POST may request it later.
